This list provides brief descriptions and links to fellowship opportunities available to students.

Wanted: An AGEP Mentor for New Mexico Tech’s Environmental Science REU Program.

We are looking for a New Mexico AGEP-funded graduate student to serve as program mentor for our environmental science summer undergraduate research program. The job duties include organizing and supervising social events and field trips for the program participants, acting as a role model and mentor, and monitoring the day-to-day progress of the student’s research projects. The position begins on June 3rd and ends on July 30th, 2006. The salary is $6,000 for the 8-week period. To apply, please mail or e-mail a letter of interest and resume to the address below. The application deadline is April 1st, 2006.

Interdisciplinary Science for the Environment: An Undergraduate Summer Research Experience at New Mexico Tech

This summer, 10 undergraduates will have the opportunity to conduct research on environmentally-related topics at New Mexico Tech. Each participant will be part of an interdisciplinary team of faculty and students working together on one of five research projects. In addition to research activities, students will have the opportunity to take part in weekend field trips and other activities.

The program begins on June 5th and ends on July 28th, 2006. A $3,200 stipend, on-campus housing, a meal allowance, and limited travel reimbursement are provided to each participant. Undergraduate students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents and are currently enrolled in a 2 or 4 year degree-granting college or university are eligible to apply. Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU)
HACU is seeking qualified applicants for their summer and fall 2006 internship sessions. The HACU National Internship Program (HNIP)offers paid internships that also include a students round-trip travel with federal agencies and private corporations nationwide.
Participants are associates, undergraduate, and graduate degree seeking students with a minimum GPA of a 3.0 and are active in the community and campus activities. Representatives from the host organizations and HACU staff work to ensure that students skills and goals are considered in placement. Agencies and corporations review applications and make the final selection.
Weekly pay is based upon 40 hours of work per week:
Graduate students will receive $540.
Application Deadlines:
Summer (June 2 ­ August 12, 2006): February, 24, 20066
Fall (August 24 ­ December 9, 2006): June 16, 2006

www.hnip.net. You will find detailed instructions on how to complete the application process. Items that need to be completed on-line are: (1) Application, (2) Professional level resume, and (3) 250-500 word essay.  Items that cannot be completed on-line and need to be sent in include: (1) Official college transcripts and (2) Certificates of enrollment and class level. Please do NOT fax these items as they will not be accepted.

National Physical Science Consortium (NPSC)

The National Physical Science Consortium (NPSC) sponsores a six-year doctoral fellowship program in the physical sciences, which targets underrepresented minorities and women. NSPC Fellowships support promising students in astronomy, chemistry, computer science, geology, material science, mathemacitcal sciences, physics, and their subdisciplines, as well as related chemical, computer, electrical, environmental, and mechanical engineering fields. The total value of each fellowship exceeds $200,000, the exact amount depending on the cost of the university chosen by each fellow.

The NPSC also offers a Dissertation Support program and an Internship Program. The Dissertation Support program provides support while the graduate student conducts dissertation research.  The Internship Program places NPSC applicants with its employer-members for summer research.

AWIS Educational Foundation

The AWIS Educational Foundation awards three types of fellowships: namely predoctoral (for advanced graduate students), Lorentzen (for college sophomores and juniors studying physics or geoscience), and college (for high school seniors).
