Supplementary Stipends for Fall 2005 The New Mexico Alliance for Graduate Education and the Professoriate (NM-AGEP) is pleased to announce the availability of funds for underrepresented minority graduate students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines currently enrolled at partner institution Eastern New Mexico University, New Mexico Highlands University, or Northern Arizona University. Stipends in the amount of $1000 each will be available for the Fall 2005 academic semester (with the possibility of renewal) and will be awarded to qualified candidates intending to pursue doctoral degrees. In order to apply for a stipend, a student must be a U.S. citizen or permanent U.S. resident and be a self-identified member of an underrepresented minority group as defined by the National Science Foundation (NSF) (African-American, Hispanic, Native American, Alaskan Native, or Native Pacific Islander); and have been admitted to (or are currently enrolled in) a Master’s program in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics with a clear, demonstrable intention of pursuing a Ph.D. in one of the STEM disciplines and an interest in joining the professoriate. Applicants must complete the online NMSU-AGEP Application Form and submit two letters of recommendation: one from the advisor and one from the department head. These materials should indicate that, upon completion of the Master’s degree, the student would quality for a doctoral program in a STEM discipline, and also that the applicant intends to pursue a Ph.D. and has an interest in joining the professoriate. Additional information about NM-AGEP and the online application may be found on this website. For additional information on the application process, contact Dr. Laurie Churchill, Project Director, NM-AGEP at ljchurch@nmsu.edu or 505-646-4015.
